The Southern Education and Library Board is currently one of 5 Education Boards in Northern Ireland, and serves parts of Counties Down and Tyrone and all of County Armagh.  It spans 1,450 square miles, with a total population of approximately 332,000 people, including 88,000 pupils.

The Northern Ireland Curriculum has placed the concept of Sustainable Development at the core of the curriculum and school life and we believe it provides a relevant and valuable context for the development of pupil participation, cross-curricular skills, thinking skills and personal development. The Curriculum Advisory and Support Service (CASS) provide guidance and support on all areas of the curriculum to teachers in all types of schools.  School Link Officers work with the Environment and Society, local and Global Citizenship, Home Economics, Geography, and Work Around Us teams (including Heathly Eating, Fair Trade, Global Dimension etc.) to support Education for Sustainable Development and the ECO Schools’ Programme.

Robert McCreery, Environment and Energy Officer with the SELB and NEELB, provides advice and guidance to schools who wish to know more about how to monitor and conserve energy
