The aim of the Travelwise team is to promote more sustainable travel to school through specific projects with our partner Departments and organisations as well as providing education and awareness resources to all schools in Northern Ireland.  Together we can assist your school in addressing any ‘school run’ issues and concerns you may have, and help imbed sustainable transport within all aspects of school life.  Our education and awareness resources include:

Best Foot Forward For Schools (BFFFS)

This is a key stage 2, CCEA approved teaching tool, containing ready made classroom activities that can be used across the whole of the curriculum.  This resource is available in hard copy as well as CD Rom to allow the whole school to learn about ways in which travel choices affect our lives.

WOW

Why not encourage pupils to participate in the WOW, Walk Once a Week/Walk on Wednesdays, Wheels Once a Week, initiative to encourage regular walking and cycling to and from school in the new term.  Posters, wall charts, and certificates are available from the Travelwise NI Team to support the initiative.

Walk to School Week

Last years Walk to School Week event had a theme of 'Step forward in Time'. It was very well supported with 211 schools in Northern Ireland registering to take part.  I hope your school had the opportunity to participate and that the pupils, teachers and parents had an enjoyable week of events.  If you would like to be part of Walk to School Week 2013 it will be happening from 20th May 2013 until Friday 24th May 2013 - now is a great time to put the dates in your diary!

Internation Walk to School Month 2012

Last year's Walk to School Month was October 2012. Pupils in over 40 countries stepped out and walked to school with 77 schools from Northern Ireland participating.
