Award Criteria

Applying or Renewing

• Use the  new online application in the School Zone.
• The process is the same for first-time applications and renewals (with one extra section for renewals).
• To be assessed in the 2025/26 school year, apply by 6 March 2026.

What Happens Next

• The Eco-Schools office will contact you to set a date for an assessment visit.
• The assessor may review your evidence and speak with students and staff about their involvement.

After the Visit

• If successful, your school gets a confirmation letter, certificate, and Green Flag.
• If not, you’ll receive feedback and guidance on how to improve for a resubmission.

Schools can also apply for a Bronze or Silver award if they feel they do not meet the Green Flag criteria. For more information please see the Eco-Schools Handbook.
