To coincide with our Energy Saving Week campaign, we engaged with primary schools and secondary schools (years 8 and 9) across Northern Ireland. They took part in an energy saving school challenge in partnership with the Housing Executive and Power NI.
Over the course of five days, school pupils were encouraged to save energy at home and reduce their carbon footprint by completing a range of daily energy saving tasks. Through this challenge, children considered their actions regarding energy use and the impact this has on the environment, to become our energy heroes of the future!
Each school that participated was issued with a certificate to illustrate the amount of carbon saved by completing the challenge, which can be proudly displayed in school.
The school that saved the highest amount of carbon dioxide (pro rata according to the size of the school population) during the energy saving challenge was awarded £1,000, to contribute to a sustainability project that benefits the school. This prize was kindly sponsored by Power NI.
